Aloha Dallas Conference Attendees and all-of-you-who-missed-it!

I’m so sorry this has taken so long…but I was on vacation till yesterday…more on my adventures later...SO!

I hope everyone had fun in Dallas! I know I had a blast…it’s always fun to meet up with old friends and meet newbies at these conferences… all of your energy and passion is so infectious…and standing at the bar the other nite (how appropriate), with my non-alcoholic coke, I realized how lucky I am to be doing something I love (albeit for peanuts) rather than stuck in a boring ol’ job doing something I hate…thanks for making me fall in love with Advertising all over again

THANK YOU to all of you who were there…I hope you learnt a lot from each other and had a great time meeting up with Ad 2 folks from around the country.

Here’s a brief recap for those of you who missed this:
1) Annual National Ad 2 Fundraiser: Silent Auction-
We made app. 30% more than we did last year…net profit of $6,000!
As promised, we’ll be sharing these profits with the member clubs who brought in donations…THANK YOU for everything!
Chris F: The Derby tix went for $700! THANKS!
Also, a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped out…Chris B and I would have died if we had to do it alone…I can’t thank you guys enough for pitching in and doing your bit. I’m SO proud of all of you. I’ve also heard nothing but great things about the auction AND also all of you. The AAF staff noted how hardworking you guys were, and what a great job you guys did in promoting the auction right before the ADDYs.
2) Billups & Lewis Sponsorship-
Ben Billups was SUPER happy with his sponsorship and was extremely happy with what we did for him/ his company. He’s pledged to sponsor us again if all goes well with his company. THANKS to Steve, Francis, Andrew, Stephen and everyone else who helped promote him/ hand out media kits to the ADDY crowd.
3) National Ad 2 Public Service Competition-
Congrats to Ad 2 Honolulu for winning the Public Service Competition…3 years in a row!
Kudos to presenters Brent Shiratori, Dana Lehman and Celeste Chikamori for a job well done…they even got a standing ovation from the B’fast crowd when they re-presented it on Tuesday…Congrats!
I did want to make a short note--- I hope that every club participates in the competition next year. It’s a worthwhile cause for the non-profit, AND for your members.
As I mentioned to a few of you, the Creative Dir on Honolulu’s campaign this year is actually an AE at an ad agency. Brent doesn’t have formal “creative” experience but he wanted to do something outside of his normal work…and he asked the PS team if he could be the Creative Dir. They thought it was a little bizarre, but decided to take the chance on him…as he did with Ad 2 Honolulu. I’m glad he did…and I hope you guys will always keep an open mind when recruiting.
4) Club of the Year-
Again, congrats to Ad 2 Honolulu for a job well done!
5) Student ADDYs-
Hope everyone got all the details about Student ADDYs. I’ll also be sending all presidents a one-sheet on that in my next e-mail. Watch out for it. Hope to see all clubs participating in this
6) National Ad 2 BOD and Presidents-
I’ll be sending out a semi-confirmed list in the next few days, just to introduce you guys to each other…stay tuned
7) Ad 2 Clubs-
Chad has advised that he’s signed up 18 paid members for Ad 2 SF, so unofficially, they’re a club...I’ll need to present this for vote to the AAF BOD in November. In the meantime….YEAH, CHAD!
Chad’s done an awesome job, almost single-handedly (with help from AdMark and Jim Magill, Western Region Chair)….here’s a big e-hug from all of us.
Jenni’s still working on Ad 2 Chicago and I heard she met with Rocco, the incoming Chicago Ad Fed President, and THAT went well (update me on this, Jenni!).
And Reno, Kansas City and Oklahoma are currently talking to me abt. Ad 2s in their cities as well. Keeping my fingers crossed.
8) National Ad 2 Student Creative Competition-
Congrats again to Iyan Susanto, our grand prize winner…keep in touch, and I strongly encourage you to sign up to be an Ad 2 SF member…Chad…hit him up!
Hope to hear from all of you soon…and throughout the year….please remember that the National Ad 2 BOD is here to help you guys out, no matter how big or small the problems are….and do update me on happenings/ activities as well.
Here’s to all of you--- an outstanding bunch of passionate, energetic young ad folks…let’s make this a GREAT year…hope to see all of you in a few months at the mid-year retreat (place TBD)…and of course, in Nashville next year.

Mahalo,
Joce
