Hey
Natl Ad 2 BOD,
This past week, I asked the Exec Committee
to advise me on where they propose the
mid-year retreat should be held, and
the vote favored San Francisco in November.
Before I confirm this destination and
present it to the Presidents, I wanted
to share the reasons with all of you:
- National Ad 2 has been working with
several individuals in San Francisco
these past 2 years, to set up a chapter
there. A lot of work and effort has
gone into this project and we’re
nearing completion of the first phase
of this project. However, in order to
get their members excited and involved,
we also need to do our parts by bringing
our organization to them. Becoz. they
would be the newest start-up, with the
most potential for new members, the
Exec Comm felt that we could make the
greatest impact by bringing the retreat
to them and their members. That way,
they can see who we are, what we do,
and what we can do for them
- These last 2 meetings (Vegas- retreat
and Dallas- Conf), Chad has paid his
own way to our meetings (albeit small
stipends from us and Western region).
However, he’s always been the
only representative from SF to benefit
from our meetings. He’s advised
that with the retreat being in SF, he
can invite all of his members/board
members and they can all benefit from
it. In addition, Ad 2 SF will have a
program/social the day before the retreat
so their other members can see the networking
advantages with us
- Someone had mentioned that we should
think about having it in the mid-west
since 2 of our struggling clubs are
there- Lexington and Louisville. However,
our conference was in Dallas this last
time, and that was in the mid-west.
And I had offered both clubs stipends
to attend the conference (and actually
begged them to come); but they were
unable to send any representatives anyway.
And…Ad 2 Chicago is far from being
set up rite now (there’re a lot
of issues with the Chicago Ad Fed and
District 6). Bringing the retreat there
will not benefit them rite now.
- Someone else had suggested having
it on the East Coast; our representative
on the Exec Comm who’s from the
East Coast has voted in favor of having
it in SF to benefit the club that needs
it most. Besides, the (4) Ad 2 clubs
in District 4 meet up every 3 months
for leadership workshops etc. with their
district
- Someone had suggested Miami- the conf
was held in Miami just 2 years ago.
- San Francisco is pretty central in
terms of flights; it’s a major
city with affordable flights to and
from the city
- The timeline of Nov is becoz. of this;
if we work backwards, I’d need
6 weeks to send out the pre-retreat
survey, get answers from the Presidents,
have you guys look thru’ it and
put together your handouts, and organize
the retreat in detail. If we have it
in Sep, we’d basically have to
start planning it now, which doesn’t
leave time for the Presidents to get
organized and advise us on what probs/challenges
they are facing. As with last year,
Nov was great becoz. it gave the Presidents
time to point out the challenges and
gave me/us enough time to organize the
retreat properly.
If any of you have questions regarding
this, please advise. I’ve talked
to Chad and he’s committed to
helping us organize it on our end and
we’ll make sure it’s productive
and effective. The date will be confirmed,
but I’m looking at either Nov
13 or 20
Thanks
joce
